SITE UNDER CONSTRUCTION

The are many resources, both printed and digital, that are excellent sources of information for the budding amateur astronomer. It is very common, however, for them to illustrate their ideas with long exposure photographs of astronomical objects. These images are often very beautiful and inspiring, but they can also give a false impression of what you will see when you go outside at night and turn your binoculars or telescope to the night sky.

The purpose of this website is to show you what you can actually see yourself with modest optical equipment. I promise to include no long exposure photographs of anything. (With one exception below!) I use real-time video clips taken using very light-sensitive cameras. I compare these with my own observations through binoculars and telescopes and adjust them to ensure that they are as close as I can get them to the real, live viewing experience.
